Everywhere you look, SOA is hot. It?s touted as the type of change IT must make if the enterprise is going to successfully mange and exploit constantly changing business conditions.
In May 2003, Procter & Gamble (P&G) announced a 10-year, $3 billion managed services contract with HP. Under this agreement, HP Services is managing P&G's IT infrastructure, datacenter operations, business continuity services, desktop and end-user support, network management, applications development, and maintenance for P&G's global operations in 160 countries.
The traditional network model is inside/outside - Internal users are trusted, and security is enforced by a physical network perimeter of some kind that protects company data from outsiders. Unfortunately, such hard separations between insiders and outsiders no longer apply in today's dynamic and interconnected global business environment.
